Vietnam AI misinformation crackdown

Within a week, the country’s cyber‑security agency (A05) reported a massive enforcement action: 86 million social‑media accounts linked to AI‑generated disinformation were removed in the first quarter of 2026. Police cited thousands of fake news items each year, noting a surge after severe weather events in 2025. Specific cases involved AI‑created videos and images that sparked public panic. Officials stressed that while AI offers opportunities, its misuse threatens public trust, prompting continued dismantling of AI‑driven fraud and prosecution of violators.
