Vietnam-Austria bilateral cooperation expansion

Overview

Vietnam and Austria are expanding bilateral cooperation across economic, diplomatic, and political sectors.

In September 2026, the two nations held an investment seminar in Vienna to attract high-quality capital. Vietnamese officials highlighted the country’s 8.18% GDP growth in the first half of 2026 and its transition toward becoming a high-income nation by 2045. Discussions focused on developing international financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, as well as Vietnam’s recent upgrade by FTSE Russell from a frontier to a secondary emerging market.

By October 2026, diplomatic efforts shifted toward strengthening political and municipal ties. The Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria met with the Mayor of Graz to propose increased theoretical exchanges between their respective political parties and to prepare for the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Proposed areas for cooperation between Graz and Vietnamese partners include science and technology, smart urban management, education, and tourism.
