Overview

Vietnam is advancing initiatives in autonomous transportation across land and air sectors. VinFast plans to pilot 200 Level 4 autonomous taxis in the Vinhomes Green Paradise urban area in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City, by the end of 2027. This deployment, which requires regulatory approval, relies on a strategic partnership with NVIDIA and Autobrains. The technology integrates the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion 10 computing platform with Autobrains’ Agentic AI software to manage complex driving tasks. Under SAE International classification, these vehicles will operate without human intervention within specific geographic areas, designed to execute a safe stop if they encounter situations beyond their capabilities.

In the aviation sector, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has proposed a pilot program for unmanned air taxis (eVTOL). The initiative seeks to connect the Central Highlands with coastal tourism hubs like Quy Nhon, offering a “smart, green, and innovative transportation solution” for the complex terrain. Because current aviation laws do not fully address passenger eVTOL certifications, vertiports, or unmanned traffic management (UTM), local authorities have suggested utilizing a controlled regulatory sandbox approach under the Law on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
