Vietnam-Belarus security and defense cooperation
Overview
Vietnam and Belarus are expanding their bilateral cooperation across security and defense sectors following the elevation of their relationship to a strategic partnership in May 2025.
In early September 2026, a high-level Vietnamese delegation visited Belarus to participate in a joint working group session. The discussions focused on national security, combating cybercrime, and responding to emergency situations. Both nations expressed a commitment to improving legal frameworks and utilizing science and technology to facilitate security cooperation.
By late September 2026, the focus shifted toward military political and ideological education. Leaders from the Vietnam People’s Army and the Belarusian Defence Ministry met in Minsk to discuss expanding ties through high-level delegation exchanges, training for military specialists, and fostering cooperation among young officers. Defense cooperation has been identified as a “fundamental pillar” of the bilateral relationship.
