Vietnam-Cuba bilateral relations expansion

Vietnam and Cuba are expanding bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including education, agriculture, and diplomacy.

In the medical field, the two nations have renewed a 65-year-old scholarship agreement. This arrangement provides an annual exchange of 15 undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships per country, specifically focusing on health training and the pharmaceutical sectors to support human resource development.

Agricultural cooperation has also seen significant progress through the ‘TBAgri connects Vietnam-Cuba’ project. This initiative has resulted in the handover of the first 470 tons of rice produced in Cuba using Vietnamese rice varieties. The project utilizes new cultivation techniques to achieve yields of 7 to 8 tons per hectare, aiming to enhance Cuba’s food sovereignty.

Diplomatic and cultural ties continue to be reinforced through parliamentary friendship groups and the publication of historical works, such as ‘Fidel Castro Ruz - Cuba in the Heart of the Vietnamese People’, which commemorates the legacy of Fidel Castro and the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
