Vietnam environmental pollution prosecutions

Vietnamese authorities have initiated several criminal prosecutions against company executives for illegal waste disposal and environmental pollution.

In Quang Ninh, the General Director of Quang Ninh Concrete Joint Stock Company was prosecuted for allegedly directing workers to dump approximately 121,880 kg of concrete residue on private lands. In Hanoi, the Director of Viet Dung Transport Co., Ltd. faced charges for directing 255 illegal trips that dumped over 4,500 tons of construction waste and sludge into the Xam Thi marsh area.

In Lang Son, investigations into illegal dumping have expanded. Authorities prosecuted Hoang Quang Bien, director of Bien Anh Co., Ltd., and Hoang Minh Hau for the unauthorized dumping of over 126 tons of construction debris, including concrete, bricks, and cement, at a recycling area in Dong Kinh ward.

A separate investigation in the province has targeted Nguyen Phuc Hau, director of Tuan Hau LS Co., Ltd., and excavator operator Tran Van Cuong. This case involves the unauthorized dumping and leveling of approximately 900 tons of industrial solid waste at the Na Duong 3 Industrial Cluster. Under the Penal Code, the illegal dumping of more than 500 tons of solid waste can result in significant fines or imprisonment.
