Vietnam flood preparedness initiatives
Entities: Phạm Đức Luận · Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention · Lê Văn Bảo · Quang Tri province · Super Typhoon Yagi
Overview
In July 2026 Vietnam intensified its flood‑risk mitigation effort. The Dike Management and Disaster Prevention Agency convened a technical training conference for nearly 300 officials from 14 provinces, focusing on updated legal rules, rapid on‑site response and a two‑tier local‑government disaster‑management model introduced in 2025. The training drew lessons from the severe 2024‑2025 flooding that caused hundreds of deaths and over 800 dike incidents.
At the same time, food‑producer Acecook Vietnam partnered with the same agency to roll out community‑level disaster‑risk awareness programmes in provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Đăk Lắk and Lai Châu. The initiative reached over 1,000 students, journalists and local leaders, delivering visual education on flood and landslide hazards, risk‑assessment tools and nutrition guidance before, during and after disasters. Together, the government‑led officer training and private‑sector community outreach illustrate a coordinated, multi‑tiered strategy to boost Vietnam’s resilience ahead of the 2026 flood season.
