Vietnam Football Federation development and achievements

The ninth term (2022–2026) of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), led by President Tran Quoc Tuan, has been characterized by significant milestones in various football disciplines.

In men’s football, the national team successfully defended its Southeast Asian championship title in both 2024 and 2026. Youth development has also seen progress, with the U-17 men’s team securing a World Cup berth.

Women’s football and futsal have seen notable advancements. The women’s national team achieved a historic qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and reached the 2026 Asian Cup finals. To build on this, the VFF announced a strategy in June 2025 targeting qualification for the 2031 Women’s World Cup, supported by AFC and UEFA methodologies.

In futsal, the men’s team, coached by Diego Giustozzi, has focused on squad rejuvenation to target the 2028 Futsal World Cup, achieving success such as reaching the quarterfinals of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Experts note that sustained future success will depend on stable governance, youth training, and continued financial investment.
