Vietnam health supplement regulatory enforcement
Overview
The Vietnam Food Administration, under the Ministry of Health, has taken regulatory action against unregistered or improperly documented health supplements sold on e-commerce platforms.
In early August, authorities ordered Shopee and Lazada to cease sales and remove the weight-loss supplement Slimaura Care X3. The Food Safety Agency determined the product was being marketed without a valid registration certificate from Slimaura Care Vietnam Co., Ltd. The Ministry demanded that platforms remove all related listings and report compliance.
By late August, enforcement expanded as the Vietnam Food Administration ordered Shopee to immediately remove 11 health supplement products following investigations into counterfeit, smuggled, and hand-carried goods. Authorities identified that several items, including various OstroVit brand products such as Creatine, Magnesium citrate, Omega 3 D3 + K2, and Vitamin D3 4000 + K2, utilized incorrect registration numbers. For example, registration number 1648/2021/ĐKSP was being used for OstroVit products despite being officially assigned to Elasten products.
In response to allegations of smuggling and illegal trade, the Hanoi Department of Health has been tasked with inspecting Siêu thị Ba Lan and the TRON transport company. Authorities have stated that if criminal violations are discovered, cases will be referred to the police for further action.
