Vietnam-India bilateral relations and trade goals

Representatives from Vietnam and India met in Ho Chi Minh City to commemorate the 80th anniversary of India's Independence. During the event, officials discussed transitioning toward an enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. A primary economic goal established was to increase bilateral trade to $25 billion by 2030.

Discussions highlighted expanding cooperation in sectors including defense, security, investment, innovation, science, technology, space, and digital transformation.

Following the upgrading of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, trade between the two nations reached 13.4 billion USD during the first eight months of 2026. This figure represents a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Vietnam's exports to India totaled 8.05 billion USD, a 16.9% increase, while imports from India rose to 5.37 billion USD, a 39.5% increase. Key Vietnamese export categories include manufactured goods such as technology, electronics, and machinery, as well as agricultural products like rubber and pepper.
