Vietnam interior ministry leadership change

Overview

In late July 2026, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng signed Decision No. 1315/QD‑TTg appointing Nguyễn Tiến Hải, a Central Committee member and former An Giang provincial party secretary, as acting Minister of Interior. The decision was part of a broader personnel reshuffle that also saw the removal of former party official Bùi Văn Hải from all Party posts.

A week later, the Vietnamese National Assembly formalised the change. Resolutions 32/2026/QH16 and 33/2026/QH16 dismissed the incumbent minister Đỗ Thanh Bình and confirmed Nguyễn Tiến Hải as the new Minister of Interior for the 2026‑2031 term. The Assembly also approved several provincial leadership adjustments and created a new advisory team for the Assembly’s Secretary‑General.

Together, the two actions illustrate a coordinated transition of interior ministry leadership, moving from an acting appointment by the executive to a full legislative endorsement within a short period.
