Vietnam pig prices trend downward

Overview

The Vietnamese pig market, previously stable between 57,000 and 60,000 VND/kg, has entered a period of volatility characterized by a sharp decline in late September and continued fluctuations into early October.

In Northern Vietnam, prices have faced downward pressure. Provinces including Lang Son, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi have recorded decreases of 1,000 VND/kg, with most locations trading around 56,000 VND/kg. Thai Nguyen and Hung Yen currently maintain the highest regional rates at 57,000 VND/kg.

In the Central and Highlands regions, prices have dipped further, with Quang Tri, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai reaching a national low of 55,000 VND/kg. In Southern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City remains a high-price outlier at 58,000 VND/kg, though price reductions in Dong Nai have impacted the national price ceiling.

These declining market conditions are approaching the cost of production for many farmers. When combined with rising feed costs, the trend has raised concerns regarding profitability, although there is anticipation for a market recovery during the year-end peak season.
