Vietnam offshore wind energy development
Overview
Vietnam is advancing its offshore wind energy sector through both private investment and international cooperation. Pacifico Energy Vietnam, a subsidiary of the U.S.-based Pacifico Energy Group, has commenced the offshore technical survey phase for wind power projects in collaboration with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC). These projects aim for a total capacity of 1.8 GW with an estimated investment exceeding $6 billion USD.
Simultaneously, Vietnam is seeking to leverage Norwegian expertise in technology, engineering, and marine operations to meet targets outlined in its revised Power Development Plan VIII. This plan calls for 6,000 MW of installed capacity by 2030 and 17,000 MW by 2035. The initiative follows a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) members, including Norway.
