Vietnam police residency, drug & counterfeit crackdown

Overview

Vietnamese police have continued a series of enforcement sweeps targeting illegal residency, drug use and counterfeit trade. In late July 2026, inspectors in Thanh Hóa province checked 80 apartments and lodging sites, fining an operator for failing to register a foreign guest and identifying one foreign individual without proper documents. The same period saw three Chinese nationals intercepted in Cao Bằng while attempting illegal entry. In early August, Da Nang’s Thanh Khe ward carried out a coordinated inspection of 293 apartments in the H A G L residential complex, issuing 12 residency violation notices and testing 172 residents for drugs, all negative. Police also seized a glass pipe and a bag of suspected crystal meth from a single unit. On 7 August, the Da Nang operation expanded to raids on 98 workers across three communes, where several positive drug tests were recorded, ketamine was confiscated and arrests were made for illegal drug storage and use. Simultaneously, Hanoi prosecutors charged shop owner Nguyễn Thị Hương and associate Đinh Công Thắng for selling 3,615 counterfeit luxury items valued at more than 549 million VND. Later on 7 August, coordinated raids in Da Nang, Phú Thọ and Hanoi seized over 8,000 counterfeit items, including shoes, clothing and accessories bearing fake labels of Crocs, Adidas, Nike, The North Face, Goyard, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Lacoste, Gucci and Chanel. The Da Nang Economic Security Department filed industrial-property infringement charges, while authorities in Phú Thọ detained 1,115 counterfeit shoes and charged shop owner Nguyễn Văn Chung. The Hanoi market inspection reinforced prosecutions against Nguyễn Thị Hương and Đinh Công Thắng. These actions are part of the nationwide crackdown on counterfeit trade.
