Vietnam public health and drug prevention initiatives
Overview
Vietnam has initiated several public health and safety programs targeting various demographic and social risks. In late September 2026, the Young Health Programme (YHP) for 2026–2029 was launched in Can Tho. This collaboration between the Can Tho Department of Education and Training, Plan International Vietnam, and AstraZeneca Vietnam aims to address non-communicable diseases by educating adolescents on risks such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and poor nutrition.
Following this, in early October 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra signed Decision No. 147/QD-BCDCTMTQG, establishing the 2026 work program for the National Target Program on Drug Prevention and Control through 2030. This program defines the duties of the Central Steering Committee to monitor and coordinate drug prevention efforts across central and local authorities.
