Vietnam strategic highway infrastructure development

Overview

Vietnam is conducting high-level inspections of major transportation infrastructure projects to ensure timely completion and regional connectivity.

In late September 2026, Minister of Construction Trần Hồng Minh inspected several projects, including the Tuyên Quang - Hà Giang expressway and the expansion of National Highway 2. While land clearance for the expressway is complete, officials noted coordination challenges and delays in site utilization for the Vĩnh Yên - Việt Trì section.

Following this, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc inspected strategic highways in Lang Son province, specifically the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang and Dong Dang-Tra Linh routes. He directed authorities to complete land clearance by October 2026 to ensure the projects are operational before the 2027 Lunar New Year. The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted a pilot project for a smart border gate at the Huu Nghi (Vietnam)-Youyi Guan (China) crossing to improve freight transport efficiency.
