Vietnamese students have demonstrated significant success in various international academic competitions throughout 2026.

In August, the Vietnamese national team secured a top-eight ranking at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The team achieved a 100% success rate, earning one gold, two silver, and one commendation medal. Nguyen Huu Tuan was noted as a gold medalist.

By September, reports highlighted further achievements in mathematics and artificial intelligence. This included a gold medal and grade-level championship at the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PhIMO) by Hoang Khoi William, as well as successes in the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

In response to these high-performance trends, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced plans to reform talent identification and establish systematic training programs for gifted students for the upcoming academic year.
