Viking Nile fleet expansion and multi-ship naming

Overview

Viking has expanded its Nile River cruise fleet with the delivery of the Viking Sekhmet, a vessel named after an ancient Egyptian goddess. Delivered at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, the ship features Scandinavian design elements, including a square bow and an Aquavit Terrace. The vessel accommodates 82 guests across 41 cabins and will operate itineraries such as the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids and a new 12-day Total Eclipse on the Nile route scheduled for 2027. This addition brings Viking’s total number of Nile-focused river ships to ten.

On October 15, Viking held a multi-country naming ceremony spanning the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Egypt to officially name seven new river cruise ships. In a departure from tradition, the company appointed travel advisor partners as godparents rather than celebrities or dignitaries to recognize the role of the trade community. Among the appointees were Michael Consoli, who serves as godfather to the Viking Sekhmet, Dani Galloway of Flight Centre Travel Group (godmother to the Viking Sjofn), and Michael Londregan of Virtuoso (godfather to the Viking Ptah). The ceremonies utilized Gammel Opland aquavit for the christenings.
