Villa de Álvarez municipal community initiatives

In mid‑July 2026, Mayor Tey Gutiérrez Andrade formally concluded a two‑week municipal summer program that provided yoga, sports, crafts and games to 52 children and adolescents in Villa de Álvarez. The course, run by the local DIF, was highlighted as part of the city’s effort to meet Sustainable Development Goal 4 and was noted in a United Nations voluntary report. The mayor used the occasion to stress the administration’s ambition to scale the program from a single course to 150 courses across 150 neighborhoods.

A week later, the mayor inaugurated the renovated Casa de Usos Múltiples in the Almendros neighborhood. The refurbishment completed a municipal strategic goal, adding new paint, repaired infrastructure, upgraded sanitary and electrical systems, and new furnishings, while also improving nearby sidewalks, a playground and a futsal court. The center is intended to host gymnastics, Zumba, yoga, crafts and other human‑development activities, responding to a rapidly expanding population—Villa de Álvarez has grown from 189 to 201 colonies since 2021 and anticipates an influx of 2,000 families.

Together, the two events illustrate the mayor’s ongoing push to expand community‑based recreational and educational facilities, linking short‑term youth programs with longer‑term infrastructure upgrades to meet the needs of a growing municipality.
