Villajoyosa urban maintenance initiatives

Overview

The Villajoyosa City Council has implemented several measures to manage and maintain the municipality’s urban environment. In September 2026, the council launched a tender for an eleven-year contract to manage parks, gardens, and fountains. This project, with an annual budget of approximately 1.87 million euros, involves the maintenance of landscaped areas, street trees, and playgrounds, supported by a permanent team of 28 technicians.

Following this, in October 2026, the council initiated an intensive seasonal street cleaning plan across all neighborhoods to bolster daily services after the summer season. This reinforcement includes weekly intensive sessions using specialized machinery and worker brigades, beginning in the La Cala district. Mayor Marcos Zaragoza noted that these efforts build upon a cleaning contract expansion from July 2023 to improve the urban landscape.
