Violence and arson in Alzira

Overview

A fatal shooting in the l'Alquerieta neighborhood of Alzira has triggered a cycle of violence and retaliatory arson attacks. The initial incident, which occurred in the early hours of a Sunday, resulted in the death of 56-year-old Enrique Moreno Muñoz and left three other men injured. Authorities report the shooting originated from a traffic dispute between two young women following a minor vehicle collision, which escalated into a physical confrontation between two families.

Following the homicide, a series of arson attacks targeted the district. At least three homes have been torched, including a property on Calle Sagrada Familia owned by one of the men in custody, and a vehicle parked near a suspect’s residence. In response to the escalating violence, the Spain National Police and Alzira Local Police have increased patrols in the neighborhood. Five individuals have been detained in connection with the murder, with several transferred to prison.
