Violence and shootings in Celaya, Mexico

Overview

In early September 2026, armed individuals targeted residential properties in the Ejidal neighborhood of Celaya, Guanajuato. The attack, which occurred near the intersection of Ejido de la Machuca and Ejido San Felipe streets, resulted in structural damage to the facades and metal gates of at least two homes.

No injuries or fatalities were reported despite residents being inside the homes during the gunfire. Local security forces, including the Municipal Police and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), secured the scene, where investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings. The State Attorney General's Office has initiated a forensic investigation to identify the perpetrators.
