Violence impacting MSF healthcare in Haiti
Overview
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has faced recurring interruptions in providing maternity and reproductive healthcare at the Isaïe Jeanty hospital in the Cité Soleil district of Port‑au‑Prince due to armed violence.
In July 2026, MSF resumed 24-hour operations at the facility following a suspension caused by intense clashes in June. During the first half of the year, the unit had provided significant services, including nearly 1,000 deliveries and treatment for survivors of sexual violence.
However, by early August 2026, renewed fighting between armed groups forced MSF to suspend operations at the hospital for a second time in two months. The surge in violence led to a high volume of gunshot wound casualties, requiring mass casualty protocols, and forced the evacuation of most medical personnel for their safety.
