Violence in southern Thailand provinces

Overview

A wave of coordinated violence struck the southern Thai provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Initial reports indicated near-simultaneous bomb blasts and arson attacks at approximately 12 locations, causing significant panic and security lockdowns in border towns like Golok. These disruptions included the closure of key access roads, which left Malaysian travelers stranded near the immigration and customs complex.

As the situation developed, the scale of the violence was reported to have expanded to approximately 51 incidents occurring within a nearly two-hour window. The attacks included bombings, arson of government vehicles and offices, attacks on telecommunications towers, robberies, and tire burning. In Narathiwat, two women were injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Dalaepalas Mosque intersection.

Authorities believe the organized attacks were orchestrated by separatist groups. In response, a curfew was imposed across Narathiwat from 10:15 PM to 6:00 AM to assist police and military investigations.
