Violent ambushes in Paraguay and border regions

In August 2026, a violent ambush occurred in Encarnación, Paraguay, during a gold purchase transaction. Two men were executed after being intercepted and bound with zip ties and packing tape. A third individual survived a gunshot wound to the neck and escaped to seek help. Authorities arrested a Spanish national and his son in connection with the murders.

In early September 2026, a separate shooting ambush took place near Puerto Iguazú on the Argentine side of the Paraná River. Carlos Daniel Arrúa Adorno, a 23-year-old Paraguayan goods transporter, was killed after being intercepted by armed individuals while traveling from Presidente Franco toward Puerto Karumbé.

Arrúa Adorno was traveling with his brother and another individual to transport merchandise when the group was intercepted upon reaching the Argentine coast. His companions attempted to transport him via speedboat back to Paraguayan territory, but he was confirmed dead upon arrival at the San Camilo Sanatorium in Presidente Franco.
