Violent crime incidents in Cochabamba, Bolivia
Overview
In late July 2026, an armed robbery on Ayacucho Avenue near the Cochabamba bus terminal resulted in one death and three injuries. Among the wounded was a man who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Prosecutor Edson Orellana stated that the investigation remained open to determine the number of participants involved.
By mid-August, a separate violent incident occurred in Cochabamba where three armed men, reportedly possessing foreign accents, kidnapped a 34-year-old patient from a medical clinic. The assailants gained entry by posing as family members. The victim was found two hours later in the Chiquicollo area with multiple injuries and a gunshot wound. Police suggested the abduction might be a “targeted settlement of accounts” due to the victim’s criminal history. In response, the Bolivian Police activated ‘Plan Z’ to locate the suspects.
