Violent crime incidents in Turkey

A series of violent incidents and criminal acts have been reported across several Turkish provinces.

In Mersin, a gym owner was physically assaulted by a customer during a dispute, resulting in the suspect being detained under judicial control. In Aydın, a cafe owner was struck with a stick by an individual who was subsequently arrested and imprisoned. Meanwhile, in İzmir, an indictment was prepared against an individual accused of using discriminatory language against a mother and daughter at a beach.

Recent developments provide further details on violence in İzmir and Alanya. In İzmir’s Gaziemir district, 2016 Turkish MMA champion and gym owner Hasan Başar was shot in the leg by two individuals on a motorcycle during a mistaken identity attack. The assailants reportedly asked, “Doğan sen misin?” (Are you Doğan?) before firing. Başar was treated at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital and has since been discharged.

In Alanya’s Güllerpınarı neighborhood, an armed and masked individual attempted to rob a currency exchange office. During a struggle with the owner, Y. E., the suspect stole approximately 400,000 TL. Following a police investigation, three suspects—S. G., A. U., and A. Ç.—were detained and the stolen funds were recovered.

Additionally, in Bursa’s Nilüfer district, a 48-year-old man, G. K., was apprehended after stealing 440 packs of cigarettes from a chain market, a theft valued at approximately 60,000 TL. After compensating the market for the loss, the suspect was released following police procedures.
