Violent robberies targeting elderly in Buenos Aires
Overview
Recent reports from the Buenos Aires province highlight violent crimes targeting elderly individuals.
In Remedios de Escalada, two siblings were victims of an armed robbery while visiting their mother at the ‘Los Araucas’ nursing home. Security footage showed two armed assailants using a white car to block the victims’ vehicle. One attacker pursued a man toward the facility while the second attacked a woman, throwing her to the pavement to seize her keys. The suspects fled in their vehicles, and the case is under investigation by the Avellaneda-Lanús Judicial Department.
In Ciudadela, two criminals posing as Edenor electricity company employees entered the home of a 73-year-old woman under the pretense of performing electrical repairs. Once inside, the assailants attacked the woman. Her son intervened and engaged in a physical struggle with the intruders, during which he was struck and threatened with a screwdriver. The son managed to force the men out of the house before they fled, and he was subsequently transported to Hospital Santojanni for medical assistance.
