Violeta centers in Ecuador and Mexico

In late July 2026 the Ecuadorian government opened its 17th "Centro Violeta" in the canton of Chambo, Chimborazo. The centre, inaugurated by Minister of Government Nataly Morillo and Governor María José del Pozo, provides free psychological, legal and social services to women affected by gender‑based violence and is linked with the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office and the judiciary.

A few days later, the municipal government of Tlalnepantla, Mexico, launched mobile "Unidad Violeta" units in neighborhoods with the highest rates of gender‑based crime. The units operate twice weekly, offering similar counseling and legal assistance and receive support from the State Gender Police for protection measures. Both initiatives are presented as part of broader national policies to expand safe‑space networks for women victims of gender violence in their respective countries.
