Vitória de Guimarães and Marítimo football match

Ahead of their ninth-round Primeira Liga fixture, Vitória de Guimarães entered the match in 15th place with five points, struggling through a five-match winless streak in league play despite recent success in the Taça de Portugal. Marítimo sat in 11th place with eight points.

In the match held at the Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques, Vitória de Guimarães secured a 5-0 victory, ending their winless streak. Goals were scored by Jakupovic (two), Oumar Camara, Yeimar Mosquera, and an own goal by Paulo Henrique. The result moved Vitória de Guimarães up to 11th place, while Marítimo fell to 13th place following their seventh consecutive match without a win.

Following the heavy defeat, Marítimo coach Mitchell Van Der Gaag expressed disappointment, stating that the team appeared to “give up after conceding the second goal.” He noted that the loss highlights significant areas for improvement as the team prepares for an upcoming League Cup match against Sporting. This defeat also marked the first time Marítimo has conceded five goals in a single league match in over four years.

Vitória manager Tiago Margarido expressed optimism following the dominant performance, stating, “I believe this could be a turning point for this team.” He attributed the win to improved clinical efficiency and the squad's ability to break down low defensive blocks, noting that the team had worked extensively on these tactics during the international break. He also credited fan support for helping the squad perform under high pressure.
