VN10 drug trafficking case prosecution
Overview
The VN10 drug trafficking investigation, which originated from the discovery of narcotics hidden in toothpaste tubes on a flight from France, has moved into the judicial phase in Ho Chi Minh City.
During the first-instance trial involving 227 defendants, Spanish model and actress Andrea Aybar Carmona, known as An Tay, testified to her continuous use of methamphetamine from 2020 until her arrest in late 2024. Her testimony detailed how she used an assistant to facilitate drug purchases via delivery applications.
Following the trial, the court issued several sentences. An Tay was sentenced to eight years in prison for illegal drug possession and organizing illegal drug use. Other public figures were also penalized, including singer Nguyễn Trung Hiếu (Chi Dân), who received seven years for organizing illegal drug use, and Nguyễn Đỗ Trúc Phương, who received six years for providing locations and drugs for consumption. The case has highlighted a highly organized network with transaction flows totaling nearly 29 trillion VND.
