Volta Redonda social inclusion initiatives

Overview

The city of Volta Redonda has implemented several municipal programs focused on social inclusion and empowerment. The Municipal Secretariat for People with Disabilities (SMPD) provides services such as specialized medical consultations through the “Enxergar Além” program, free higher education via “Diploma Cidadão,” and access to assistive technology like smart glasses.

In support of financial autonomy, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (Smas) partnered with Sebrae to launch the “Trilha Empreendedora” program, which offers business training and mentorship.

Cultural inclusion has also been addressed through the “Teatro em Volta” project, managed by the Municipal Secretariat of Culture. This initiative provides weekly theater classes for youth and people with disabilities. The project concluded its first season with the inaugural Sketch Festival at the Maestro Franklin Carvalho Junior Theater, featuring performances by students from various local institutions, including the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional People (Apae-VR).
