Volunteer firefighter training in Germany
Overview
Volunteer fire departments in Germany continue to conduct various training modules to enhance emergency response capabilities.
In Königswinter, fourteen participants successfully completed their basic training. The final stage, Module 4, focused on technical assistance through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical equipment handling. Trainees are scheduled for specialized courses in breathing apparatus and chainsaw operation in the coming months.
In the Wenden and Dietingen regions, training has included intensive exercises. In Wenden, sixteen participants from Drolshagen, Olpe, and Wenden completed Truppmann-Modul 3 training, covering water supply establishment, foam use for vehicle fires, building fire management via stairwells, and vegetation fire management. In Dietingen, approximately sixty responders participated in four distinct scenarios in Böhringen and Rotzenzimmern, focusing on technical assistance for traffic accidents, vehicle stabilization, and person rescue using multiple smaller stations to simulate simultaneous deployments.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, additional specialized programs have been completed. In Herchen, fifteen firefighters participated in a multiplier course organized by Waldbrandteam e. V., focusing on vegetation fire suppression, fire behavior, and the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) to enable them to transfer these skills to their own departments. Meanwhile, in the Lennestadt and Kirchhundem regions, trainees completed Module 4 of their basic training, which emphasized technical assistance through studies in statics, mechanics, and electricity, alongside practical exercises in securing loads and responding to traffic accidents.
