Évreux municipal election annulment
Overview
The administrative court of Rouen has annulled the March 2026 municipal election results in Évreux, citing irregularities in the vote counting process. The court found that an envelope containing approximately one hundred ballots was moved and left out of sight of officials and voters for an undetermined period.
While the court noted the incident was not a deliberate maneuver, it determined the uncertainty made it impossible to confirm the voters’ true intentions. A simulation suggested that the distribution of final seats could have changed if the votes were adjusted.
Mayor Guy Lefrand expressed “stupefaction” at the ruling and announced plans to appeal to the Conseil d’État. He maintains the legitimacy of his original result, which secured 4,569 votes and 29 seats. The current municipal administration will continue to manage the city while awaiting a decision from the Conseil d’État, expected between January and April 2027.
