WADA 2027 anti-doping regulation updates
Overview
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has released its list of prohibited substances and methods for 2027, scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. The updates consist of wording clarifications and the addition of specific examples rather than major structural changes.
Key modifications include adding peptides to the S0 group of non-approved substances. In the S4 category for hormones and metabolic modulators, substances such as imlunestrant, seladelpar, SLU-PP-332, and SLU-PP-915 were added. The S5 group for diuretics and masking agents now includes eplerenone and finerenone.
Regulations regarding cannabinoids were updated to reflect research on substances with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-like effects, and the vaginal administration of certain glucocorticoids is now permitted during competition.
In Finland, the Finnish Anti-Doping Agency (SUEK) is aligning its national athlete definition and KAMU drug database with these new regulations to ensure targeted monitoring and medication verification for athletes.
