Walt Disney World operational upgrades

In July 2026 Walt Disney World highlighted two separate operational projects. Engineers from the resort’s Facilities Asset Management and Imagineering teams discussed fire‑protection engineering across attractions such as Toy Story Land, Galaxy’s Edge and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, emphasizing the unique safety challenges of the parks.

At the same time Disney began piloting solar‑powered smart trash compactors, starting with a unit at EPCOT’s Germany pavilion. The bins use solar panels to power an internal compactor and send alerts when full. Early images showed waste overflowing the units, sparking criticism that the cost‑saving measure might undermine the parks’ cleanliness standards.

By the end of the month Disney expanded the rollout, installing the curved‑top, solar‑powered compactors across Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and other locations. Each bin features park‑specific designs—such as a Tree of Life motif or a French Pavilion look—and a backup plug‑in option. The company released an instructional video to clarify usage after guests confused the new cans with tables, stating the upgrades will lessen custodial workload and keep walkways clearer.
