War crime and military defense commemorations in Bosnia

Overview

Commemorations are being held in Bosnia and Herzegovina to mark anniversaries of historical wartime events.

In Uzdol, a memorial mass was held to observe the 33rd anniversary of crimes committed against Croatian civilians and soldiers on September 14, 1993. The event, attended by victims' families and officials, noted that the massacre resulted in 29 civilian and 12 HVO deaths. To date, only former Prozor Battalion commander Enver Buza has been convicted, receiving an eight-year sentence, while the prosecution of 36 other suspected members was suspended a decade ago.

In Kozarska Dubica, ceremonies marked 31 years since the defense of the region during the 1995 ‘Una 95’ military operation. The commemorations included a memorial academy titled ‘Zavjet 18. septembra’ and a service in Donja Gradina for police officer Zoran Bulić. Local officials emphasized the necessity of remembrance regarding the defense of the western borders of Republika Srpska.
