On September 13, the team signed Ryan Leonard to an eight-year extension with an average annual value of $10.5 million, effective starting the 2027-28 season. Following this, on September 16, the Capitals signed Justin Sourdif to an eight-year extension worth $50.8 million. The deal, averaging $6.35 million annually, keeps the 24-year-old center with the team through the 2034-35 season. Sourdif, acquired from the Florida Panthers, recorded 35 points in 78 games during his first full season in Washington. General Manager Chris Patrick described Sourdif as a “versatile player” expected to continue elevating his game.
