Waste collection rates in Catalan municipalities

Overview

Data from various Catalan municipalities shows differing trends in selective waste collection rates. In La Bisbal del Penedès, the selective collection rate more than doubled during the first half of 2026, reaching 41.03% from 18.33% the previous year. This increase followed the expansion of a door-to-door collection system to urbanizations in February.

In contrast, Terrassa has experienced stagnation, with a 2025 selective collection rate of 44.73%. This figure is a slight decrease from the previous year and remains more than ten percentage points below the European Union’s 2025 target of 55%. While Terrassa’s rate exceeds those of other large municipalities in the Barcelona metropolitan area, it remains below the Catalan regional average of 48.1%.
