Waste management infrastructure development in Indonesia

Indonesia is implementing various waste management and infrastructure projects to improve environmental governance and urban sanitation.

In Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, the Ministry of Public Works is constructing the Kebon Talo Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST). This 1.48-hectare facility is designed to process 60 tons of waste daily using automated sorting for organic, inorganic, and metal materials. The plant will utilize Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) technology to convert waste into alternative fuel, with long-term goals of transitioning toward electricity production.

Other regional efforts include a waste classification and recycling socialization program by PT Puspita Cipta Group in Kuningan. Additionally, in Konawe Kepulauan, the local government has commenced construction of an Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST) on Wawonii Island. Supported by approximately Rp30 billion, this project aims to move beyond simple landfilling toward systematic sorting and repurposing to protect water sources and soil fertility.
