Water contamination and swimming bans in Imperia

Overview

In Imperia, Mayor Claudio Scajola issued ordinances temporarily banning swimming at the Parco Urbano beach and the Spianata area, specifically the Sogni d’Estate and Koko Beach zones.

The restrictions were implemented after Arpal inspections on August 19, 2026, detected intestinal enterococci levels that exceeded legal limits. This incident represents the second suspension for the Sogni d’Estate area during the summer, despite the location having maintained an ‘excellent’ classification from 2022 through 2025.

The ban remains in effect until subsequent analyses verify that water quality has returned to legal standards. Local authorities have notified beach concessionaires, and administrative sanctions may be applied to violators.
