Overview

Following earthquakes on June 24, recovery efforts in La Guaira, Venezuela, have focused on restoring water access and infrastructure.

Initially, the Venezuelan Red Cross established 24-hour water purification stations at the José Luis García Carneiro stadium in Macuto and Plaza Padre Machado in Maiquetía. These sites provided safe drinking water, purification tablets, and basic medical assistance to support community recovery.

Subsequent efforts by the state company Hidroven have targeted the repair of water infrastructure. Hidroven President Jhonn Alonzo reported that the seismic activity caused “near-total damage” to the state’s water system. As of late August, Hidroven has repaired 234 infrastructure failures and is working to resolve 64 additional issues. To assist communities without piped access, 105 cisterns have been deployed to distribute 130 million liters of water.
