Weather alerts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
Overview
Meteorological departments have issued weather alerts for the northern Indian states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh due to the influence of a Western Disturbance.
In Uttarakhand, a yellow alert has been issued for eight districts, including Dehradun and Nainital, predicting light to moderate rainfall and strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour through October 11. Snowfall is possible in areas above 4,200 meters.
In Himachal Pradesh, weather conditions have intensified. An Orange Alert remains in effect for several areas, with the Meteorological Centre in Shimla predicting unsettled conditions to continue until October 12. Significant weather shifts include heavy rain, hailstorms, and snowfall in high-altitude regions such as Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi, Kullu, the Pir Panjal range, and Rohtang Pass. In Shimla, heavy rain was accompanied by hail.
A yellow warning is also active for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30 to 50 kmph in isolated locations. These adverse conditions have caused localized disruptions, including a landslide near the Shoghi-Dhalli bypass that briefly closed the road. While no injuries or vehicle damage were reported in that specific incident, authorities have advised caution for commuters and tourists due to the risk of falling debris and trees.
