West Africa child trafficking prevention

Overview

On 30 July 2026 Ghana’s Immigration Service used the International Day against Trafficking to urge stronger community vigilance, inter‑agency cooperation and public education, announcing a training workshop for officers to detect modern trafficking methods. International Justice Mission highlighted the 20‑year Human Trafficking Act and called for deeper partnerships with government, NGOs and survivor groups.

The following day the focus broadened. In Ghana, IJM renewed its partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to strengthen child‑protection systems, support rescues and expand public education. In Nigeria, the Uromi Justice Development, Peace and Caritas Initiatives concluded the three‑year Act Against Child Trafficking project, emphasizing continued collaboration among government, law‑enforcement, religious and community leaders, with support from international donors. Together the events show a regional push to reinforce child‑trafficking prevention through coordinated partnerships and capacity‑building across Ghana and Nigeria.
