West African youth and professional sports initiatives
Overview
Various youth and professional sports development initiatives have been launched across West Africa.
In Cameroon and Senegal, community-focused programs were established to engage young people. Cameroon hosted the second Tradex Champions League in Lobo, which combined football competition with community support, such as providing school supplies and gas cylinders. In Senegal, the Stars Vacances initiative was launched in Kédougou to promote social cohesion and talent detection through sports and culture.
Subsequent efforts have focused on technical training and professionalization. In Senegal, the Senegalese Athletics Federation partnered with World Athletics to conduct instructor training for Kids’ Athletics to strengthen grassroots sports. In Burkina Faso, the Burkinabè Football Federation completed a training phase for CAF License A coaches, emphasizing the integration of data and technology in high-level football performance.
