Wildfire and drought in Tuzla Canton
Overview
In mid-August, the Civil Protection Service of Tuzla issued urgent warnings regarding high wildfire risks driven by prolonged drought and high temperatures. Authorities prohibited the burning of vegetation and warned that even small sparks could escalate into dangerous fires, noting that violators could face fines or criminal sanctions.
By late August, the situation escalated as multiple fire interventions were recorded across the Tuzla Canton. Emergency services worked to localize several blazes, including the reactivation of a fire at the Pauč site in Kladanj and a major fire in Živinica that caused material damage to a residence and business premises.
The drought also impacted water security, necessitating technical interventions to deliver drinking water to settlements in Srebrenik where regular distribution was disrupted. Additionally, a landslide was reported in Kosci, allegedly caused by vehicle traffic, which has endangered a residential building.
