Winter weather onset in British Columbia

Overview

In mid-October, Environment Canada issued warnings for a sharp cold front and fall storm affecting the Eastern Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and Cariboo regions. The storm brought gusty winds between 60 and 80 km/h and lowered snow levels to between 1200 and 1500 metres.

By late October, several mountain destinations, including Mount Washington Alpine Resort, Sun Peaks Resort, and Grouse Mountain, received their first seasonal snowfall. As freezing levels dropped, Comox Valley Search and Rescue issued warnings to outdoor enthusiasts regarding rapid changes in mountain trail conditions involving snow and ice.
