Women-focused cultural exhibitions in Spain and Andorra

Overview

Cultural exhibitions in Spain and Andorra have focused on various aspects of women’s legacies, health, and social roles.

Initial exhibitions centered on historical and literary contributions. In Castelló, Spain, an exhibition at El Menador honors teacher and writer Sofia Salvador i Monferrer through personal objects and documents. In Andorra, the Llacuna cultural center hosted ‘Dones que donen la nota’, a project by Cristina Gallart Balañá designed to recover the histories of 25 female musicians and creators who were previously excluded from official narratives.

Subsequent exhibitions shifted toward contemporary social and medical issues. In Cuenca, Spain, the Museo de Cuenca hosted ‘Arte a dos manos: Mujeres y salud mental’, a collaborative project between 26 artists and 26 individuals with mental health diagnoses aimed at dismantling stigmas. Meanwhile, in Andorra, the Institut Andorrà de les Dones inaugurated ‘Ginòpia Mèdica’, an exhibition exploring how androcentrism in medical research has historically led to diagnostic errors or inadequate treatments for women.
