Women's empowerment initiatives in Arica

In the Arica region, initiatives to support women’s economic autonomy and social empowerment have expanded through various government and non-governmental programs.

Initially, the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) expanded its ‘Programa 4 a 7’ by adding Colegio Eduardo Frei Montalva to its network of after-school care facilities. This expansion aims to facilitate women’s participation in the labor market, studies, or training by providing care for children and adolescents aged 6 to 13. Additionally, 58 women completed the ‘Academia Mujer Emprende 2026’ via the María Olga Ester NGO, receiving training in modules such as networking, financing, and project formulation.

Subsequently, the Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Women (PRODEMU) and SernamEG certified approximately 100 women in the Arica province. This training involved workshops covering leadership, technical skills, business plan development, and sexual and reproductive rights. Regional directors noted that these tools are intended to assist women in making decisions regarding their own life projects and economic independence.
