Women's political participation initiatives in the Americas

Overview

During the Week of Political Parity Impulse in the Dominican Republic, several initiatives were launched to support women’s political participation in the Americas.

Initially, the Dominican Ministry of Women and the Organization of American States (OAS) launched the ‘Milagros Ortiz Bosch’ high-level course. This program provides training for over 300 female leaders from the Dominican Republic and the wider region, focusing on rights, equality, and the practical tools necessary for rural women to navigate electoral processes.

Following this, the Regional Coalition to Promote Women's Access to Electoral Financing was established. Driven by the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and supported by the French government, the coalition aims to unite electoral institutions and civil society to address economic inequalities. Alejandra Mora Mora, Executive Secretary of the CIM, noted that unequal access to resources is a “structural barrier to gender-parity democracy,” prompting the coalition to seek reforms in how electoral resources are distributed and overseen.
